Vying for yet another commercial comeback, Kid frontloads his funnest tunes and groovingest Seger swipes: from "UMC" in pro-gun, anti-N.S.A. boogie "Ain't Enough Whiskey," and "Nutbush City Limits" via T. Rex in anti-Coldplay/champagne/Twitter swamp-funker "Good Times, Cheap Wine." The title opener has quite the catchy chorus; soul sisters sing backup a lot, and nostalgic approval is granted to Tom Petty, Keith Whitley, French braids, fatherly advice and cross-country road trips. On the second half, tempos slow and Kid digs out his Bocephus records and Bible. When did he start reading books??
