Label: Luaka Bop
This fantastic release marks the third in a series by Brazilian experimental trio +2 (preceded by Domenico+2's Sincerely Hot and Moreno +2's Music Typewriter). Driven this time by noted producer and composer Alexandre Kassin, Futurismo might be the best of the set. Despite Kassin's experimental reputation, he applies a gentle hand to Brazil's musical history, emulating both the Brazilian soul of the 1970s and bossa nova while throwing open a window to let in crisp, evenhanded jazz. The playing is uniformly great; this is easily one of the best Brazilian releases of 2008.
