The first half of Reality Show is loaded with stories: a narcissist on "Mascara," an abused woman on "Brand New," an unemployed single mother who tries to rob a bank on "Silver Lining," and a thug mistress on "#HoodLove." Then, just as unexpectedly, Sullivan returns to the usual R&B themes of love gained and love lost. Those songs are good, too, from the Motown stomp of "Stupid Girl" to "Let It Burn," with its melody similar to After 7's "Ready or Not." But her earlier, stunning vignettes will make you wonder what kind of "Masterpiece" she'd have if she wrote a full-length Reality Show.
