Near To The Wild Heart Of Life
Near to the Wild Heart of Life very much sounds like a Japandroids album: buzzing indie rock, heartland earnestness and sing-along choruses all smashed together. But as the title track and “North East South West” prove, rumination has crept into the duo’s worldview. It’s as though Brian King and David Prowse are now looking inward and wondering what’s life got in store beyond rock. Sonically speaking, they remain committed to electric guitars and thumping drums while at the same time incorporating touches of electronics (“True Love and a Free Life of Free Will”) and acoustic guitar (“Midnight to Morning”).
