Label: Brunswick Records
Jackie Wilson had one of the best voices in '50s pop, and the songs here reveal how he helped nurse Rn'B into its '60s soul era during his early years with the Brunswick label. Swinging big-band arrangements mark the production, and, along with the bopping harmonizing, give this collection a pop appeal. At times, the sincerity is almost too much for the modern listener, but tracks such as "I'll Be Satisfied," "Reet Petite" and "Lonely Teardrops" point to everything from Motown to Phil Spector. Also included here is his mid-'60s work with the legendary Carl Davis, which produced the hit "Higher and Higher."
