Friend, You've Got to Fall
Label: Rhino/Warner Records
Husker Du's second double-LP Warehouse further showcases the distinct (and by now, divergent) songwriting talents of Bob Mould and Grant Hart without diluting the band's cohesive power. Too early and ugly for grunge, Husker Du nevertheless pointed the way to 1990s indie rock by showing that a regal, if threadbare, elegance can work with a snotty, unruly punk sound. Don't fool yourself into thinking that Husker Du preferred the rock underground -- they broke up after this, the constant fatigue and band politics not relieved by a distinct lack of financial success.
