Not only is it impossible to imagine the movie without Mancini's great score but so many people have tried to recreate the film's Greenwich Village beatnik party vibe that the album went to No. 1 on the pop charts. The score won an Academy Award while the eternal "Moon River" (with lyrics by Johnny Mercer) won for best song.
