Each of Hayden's releases have managed to progress in terms of songwriting weight and musicianship, and Elk Lake Serenade is no exception. The haunted, lush opener "Wide Eyes" moans and creaks before dropping us into an album that spills over with rustic melodies and shuffling melancholy.
