Every Man Should Know
"Not every man has big words to say/ Able men keep this world turnin'" goes a couplet in the title song here. Heard in the context of this album, it sounds honest. Despite being marketed as a composer's record -- the 12 tunes here are "original," technically -- there's not much distinctness to be found amid these able performances by Connick. He doesn't have big things to say, and accepts it. The warmed-over production gracing even the songs possessed of some swagger, like "One Fine Thing," will soothe you or leave you cold. But every man (woman and child) should know that by now.
