TRANSLATION LOSS
Determined to sonically simulate how the sea goes on forever and has a whole lot of typhoons, kraken-metal ensemble Giant Squid pack in too much substance to drift off like mere metalgaze. But on the ocean, they still have to float some. The title cut starts things off with coed lullaby harmonies, and things take frequent heavy prog detours from there, cello and keyboards often assisting the effect. "Sixty Foot Waves" opens jaunty, undulates unto Egypt, turns nicely chamber-groupish, then beefs up. And in "Sir Arthur Evans" and "Mycenaeans," somebody channels Nick Cave for a spell.
