If You Have Ghost
Label: Concord/Loma Vista/Caroline
Here's where these pseudo-Satanic pontiffs truly embrace inner schlock as they await the Dawn of Beelzebub: an EP highlighting four cover versions, then a live take on their own cuckoo-clock-rocking "Secular Haze." Interpreted: Roky Erickson's acid-haunted 1981 metal move "If You Have Ghosts"; Depeche Mode's nocturnal 1990 "Waiting for the Night"; and two numbers by Ghost's fellow Swedes -- ABBA's 1977 puppet show "I'm a Marionette" (most apt use of strings, ha ha) and Army Of Lovers' blasphemous 1991 Eurotrasher "Crucified." Sadly absent: their even spookier rendition of "Here Comes the Sun."
