Splitting the difference between hazy ‘90s indie and Bananarama-era British dance pop and sung in a voice triangulating between whispery, rough and almost bubbly, several songs on this London ingenue’s sophomore album have her trying to flee possibly unhealthy relationships that keep drawing her back in. She stretches the word “cool” to six syllables in “Lose My Cool” and reminds us money can’t buy love in “Money.” Meanwhile, the production touches — house-music keyboards in “Amazing,” gospel-massed Europop vocals in “Rise Up (Reprise),” both in “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now”— keep things clever.
