The intersection of indie rock, new wave and soul was curious even before whistling entered the mix. But, from MGMT to Foster The People, this stuff slowly got balled up into a legitimate strain of indie pop. And now we have Fitz and the Tantrums, whose sophomore release brings together fully integrated fusions, brittle New Orleans-style piano and disco diva harmonies. "The Walker" could be Gnarls Barkley, while The Killers would indeed kill for "Last Raindrop." Best of all are the final two tracks, the Mysterians-like garage 'n' soul of "Get Away" and the mournfully exultant "MerryGoRound."
