Two Different Ways
Label: Dfa Records
Post-punk and house music make strange bedfellows, but their shacking up isn't unheard of. As mindful of contemporary experimental techno as they are of Manchester's Factory Records, Factory Floor churn out a futuristic version of electronic body music that fuses the gothic trance-outs of Chris & Cosey with the snap and snarl of early Chicago house. Dominic Butler's rippling synth arpeggios and Gabe Gurnsey's terrifyingly precise drumming provide the music's bedrock, over which Nik Void sketches wraithlike shapes with processed voice and guitar. It's house at its most hypnotic and haunting.
