Rashad, Traxman and RP Boo have all taken footwork to dizzying new heights in recent years, but Rashad holds onto the crown as the genre's most experimental producer, and perhaps also its most expressive, with Double Cup. Rashad stretches footwork's rhythmic template to include elements of jungle and Detroit techno alongside its skittering 808s, and his zig-zagging arrangements take on the character of densely knotted fugues. His samples, meanwhile -- lush Rhodes, looped vocals, disco breaks -- are so sumptuous that you don't even notice the music's breakneck tempo.
