The Return Of The Magnificent
Jazzy Jeff wisely chooses not to tamper with the formula that made 2002's The Magnificent a surprise. The album's gossamer-like boom-bap production -- think Dilla meets Diamond D -- is subtle enough to let Jazzy display his still-inspired turntable cuts. But this isn't a turntablist album, and much of the appeal resides in a great guest roster that features the new (Twone Gabz), the old (CL Smooth, Method Man and J-Live) and the really old (Big Daddy Kane and Pos from De La Soul). The nine skits are a distraction, but little else disappoints.
