Take It Easy
Delbert McClinton, much like fellow Lone Star legends Doug Sahm and Willie Nelson, has never cared much for genre distinctions. Just three songs into this killer two-disc anthology, it's clear the guy melds brawny blues, roadhouse honky-tonk, rock 'n' roll, gospel and R&B into a groovy Americana stew, one that predated the alt-country movement by nearly 20 years. Even better is this collection's thoroughness. It accounts for many of the labels McClinton has recorded for through the years.
