Trying Hartz is a 28-track anthology summarizing the first decade (1994-2004) of Danielson/Danielson Famile madness. The influence that the good Brother's fusion of avant pop and Christianity has exerted on indie rock is staggering. Way back in 1994 he was exploring a terrain that everybody from Animal Collective to Sufjan Stevens to Abe Vigoda wouldn't start settling until the 2000s. Of particular interest to hardcore fans is a smattering of previously unreleased live tracks. Amen.
