In the City
Label: FAT POSSUM
Experts of the tantalizing slow-burn, Caveman solidify their elegantly textured indie pop on this sophomore album. Caveman is seamless (the last track even mirrors the first), and like The Shins and Grizzly Bear, the band creates subtle hooks that slowly capture your brain and your heart (see the melancholic pop of "Shut You Down" and "Where's the Time"). Their lush guitars and harmonies serenely float upon a sea of droning new wave synths, which add a gentle tension, especially on tracks like "Over My Head," "Ankles" and "Pricey," which deviously skulks in The Cure's shadow.
