The Sea of Memories, Bush's first album in 10 years, doesn't represent a bona fide reunion: Guitarist Nigel Pulsford and bass player Dave Parsons sat out this round. Their absence isn't a big deal, in all honesty; the band has always been Gavin Rossdale's baby. Time hasn't altered his aesthetic very much. He still mines the crunchy, moody turf between Seattle grunge (the commercial stuff, that is) and Catherine Wheel's more-influential-than-you-realize fuzz rock. The Sea of Memories won't go platinum, but it won't embarrass longtime fans either. Mailing it in is never an option for Rossdale.
