Little more than a year after Future Chaos, Tim Simenon's Bomb the Bass return with Back to Light, a sharper, more uptempo version of moody electronica that welds driving, club-ready rhythms to the melancholic songwriting Simenon learned as one of Depeche Mode's producers in the '90s. Co-producer Gui Boratto lends bright tone colors and buzzing synthesizers, while a rotating cast of collaborators -- Kelley Polar, Swayzak's Richard Davis, longtime cohort Paul Conboy and even the folky Battle of Land and Sea -- rounds out the album's full melodic scope.
