All Neon Like
Label: One Little Indian Records
Where Bjork's first two albums drifted whimsically across styles and emotional states, on her third solo LP she focuses her aesthetic like never before. Fitting the cover, it's both steely and opulent, brimming with lush string arrangements and severe electronic rhythms. Picking through the wreckage of a broken relationship, Bjork sounds more unguarded than ever: "I'm a fountain of blood," she sings at the start of "Bachelorette." But "Alarm Call" and "All Is Full of Love" are also defiant declarations of perseverance. Her voice, and her productions, never sounded braver, or better.
