The young Quincy Jones leads his dynamic big band on this superior live recording with the satin-voiced Billy Eckstine. The set is highlighted by two extended medleys, one of Ellington tunes (the Duke is in the audience) and another of Eckstine's biggest ballads hits. Eckstine was a fantastic singer, but this concert set blows many of his studio dates away since overtly lush orchestrations can make his creamy vocal style sound over-the-top instead of romantic.
