The Bamboos are six white dudes from Australia who play revivalist funk. Nothing about this sounds right on paper, but the Bamboos make some damn funky music. It's obvious that the boys have dutifully studied the Meters and the JBs, as well as the early records of the Bar Kays and Booker T. & the MGs. Like those bands, the rhythm section for the Bamboos is tight as a midget's closet. There is the occasional indulgence, but for the most part the group is intensely focused on creating and maintaining the tightest grooves possible. Welcome to the Australian deep funk scene.
