I Buried Your Love Alive
Label: Warner Bros.
Ashley Monroe's sophomore release isn't simply a breakup album. Yes, songs such as the scorching, noir "I Buried Your Love Alive," and the annihilating "The Blade," reflect the post-breakup grieving process, as Monroe expertly chronicles anger, devastation, and self-doubt. But she also has hope: "Hard times roll up, but they don't hang around/ I feel like I'm onto something good," she sings on jaunty opener "On to Something Good." Other highlights include the shades-of-Elvis track "Winning Streak," the slow-burning "If the Devil Don't Want Me," and the twanging waltz of "I'm Good at Leavin'."
