Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II
Label: Chop Shop/Atlantic
Marina's second record shows her leaping from the cutesy, coffeehouse folk of her debut to effortlessly bouncing between R&B, rock, swinging arrangements and even a little bossa nova. "All the Same to Me" is as good as that Moloko song from 100 years ago ("Fun for Me"); "Cut It Out" and "Afterparty at Jimmy's" are straight-up rock, and closer "High on the Ceiling" returns to the perfect weird-pop of "Clean and Sober." A rarity, Slow & Steady not only realizes the potential hinted at in her debut, it exceeds expectations.
