Time Without Consequence
Label: Zero Summer
Alexi Murdoch's gentle tone and mellifluous finger-picking unavoidably recall Nick Drake. The Scot folkie even has Drake's lyrical knack for providing comfort to the lonely and depressed. While the effortless, playing-in-your-living room-sound of "Breathe" and "Orange Sky" exemplify this, part of Murdoch's appeal is his willingness to experiment beyond the acoustic guitar, as in the psychedelic punch of feedback and lo-fi effects on "Home" and "12." He may sound like Drake, but that's not all.
