Small Town Southern Man
Label: Arista Nashville
For all of Alan Jackson's strengths as a young artist, the series of singles that pepper the middle of his career -- starting with "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?" -- leaves him few peers. This, the lead-off single to Good Time, casts the musically contentious "Southern Man" as a clean-livin', God-fearing everyman, leaning on the kind of keenly tooled hook we expect from one of Nashville's most sensitive songwriter/performers.
