Top 10 Classical Releases, October 2013

First up on our monthly look at the latest in classical albums, we have a young pianist pairing the second book of Debussy's Etudes with new pieces by Pierre Boulez (check "Une page d'ephemeride," by turns gorgeous and strange). Elsewhere, indie-scene stars Megafaun collaborate with early minimalism pioneer Arnold Dreyblatt (hear "Home Hat Placement" for the down-home drone). And conducting wunderkind Gustavo Dudamel takes the Berliner Philharmoniker on a ride though Richard Strauss' grand "Also Sprach Zarathustra" that works to compete with the version you may know from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

We also have new takes on Shostakovich symphonies and Prokofiev's works for violin, and a brand-new oratorio from pianist-composer Vijay Iyer. Go ahead and click play to launch the attached playlist, and then check back with the track list below to view the featured composers and opus titles. Enjoy!
