The World of Lucinda Williams

About this playlist

Lucinda Williams' ubiquity as a guest artist on other people's albums is an indication of her eminence both in the alt country/Americana community and beyond. Besides alt country godmother Emmylou Harris, it's tough to think of another singer of Lucinda's ilk whose pipes are so sought-after on other artists' sessions. Not only has she lent her lusciously leathery tones to tracks by the cream of the country crop, from Steve Earle to Willie Nelson, she's also appeared on cuts by the likes of Ray Davies, Elvis Costello, M. Ward and a host of others. With the Louisianan legend's January 26 birthday upon us, it's an excellent time to look back at the eclectic array of acts from the realms of rock, R&B, country, blues and more who have called upon her singular services to bring that certain something, identifiable only as "Lucinda," to their sound.
