The Pastels Return

About this playlist

Glasgow's The Pastels predated a whole indie pop generation, with Gerard Love's flat vocal delivery going on to influence Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson, who would eventually start K Records and fill their catalog with Pastels-like lo-fi jangle bands. Their melodic drive would go on to help propel label collectives such as Sarah Records and Teenbeat into existence. They've even got a new album out for the first time in 16 years, a subdued and pretty thing appropriately titled Slow Summits. But here we run through The Pastels' entire catalog -- warts, highlights and all. "Kitted Out" even features an oom-pah brass band. May they never outgrow their awkward stage.
