When Tedeschi Trucks Band first emerged in 2010, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks were keen to point out to interviewers that it would take substantial touring and woodshedding for their ambitious new experiment to come into its own. Well, it seems as if that has happened, because their brand-new album, Made Up Mind, is a fully formed vision of modern Southern rock, one swirling in richly textured hues of gospel, folk and blues.
As with their forefathers, the legendary Allman Brothers Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band blur the line between family and music group. As most people know by now, the brothers Duane and Gregg founded the former group, courtesy of a musical bond that seemed somehow psychic. The latter is the brainchild of husband-wife duo Tedeschi and Trucks. (He’s a current member of the Allmans and nephew of original drummer Butch.) But this blurring reaches beyond familial links. Cooked into the culture of both bands is a belief that your fellow musicians are far more than mere bandmates; they're your intimates.
It's for this very reason that our Allman Family Legacy playlist encompasses output from both direct kin and the many musicians who have passed through the Allmans Brothers' ever-rotating ranks. Not surprisingly, this covers a wide array of artists. In addition to those already mentioned, there's Devon Allman, Sea Level, Warren Haynes, Gov't Mule, Dickey Betts, Hour Glass and many more.
