If you're the kind of metal fan who loves super-intricate guitar chords, insane solos that last until next week, impossible time signatures twisting through time and space like a medieval labyrinth, and paradiddles out the wazoo, Napster's Shred Radio will be right up your alley.
The station is centered around the fleet fingers and virtuoso fretwork of wizards like Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Jason Becker, Jeff Loomis and the Great Kat. But the manual dexterity doesn't stop there by any means, since Shred pulls in the gamut of metal axe-hero history, all the way back through Iron Maiden and Van Halen to Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore and Michael Schenker, then forward to the so-called "djent" stylings of present-day platoons like Meshuggah, Animals As Leaders and Periphery. In between, you'll hear all the gnarliest solos from bands ranging from Slayer, Megadeth and Pantera to Dream Theater, Dragonforce and Blind Guardian, not to mention countless chops-crazed prog metal, power metal, thrash and death metal artists you might never even have heard of before. Shred's playlist also runs miles deep with heavy metal instrumentals -- because when massive rock is skirting jazz fusion and classical symphonies, sometimes it's best not to let words get in the way.
On that note, we'll shut up, so you can crank the volume. Have your air guitar ready!
