About this playlist

Once upon a time, reggaeton was the hard-rolling sound of hip-hop crushed up with dancehall, soca and other Caribbean rhythms, driven by the booming, sometimes menacing dembow riddim and presided over by smack-talking, diamond-edged emcees. These days, the genre's top reggaetoneros roll more dance pop than dembow, dealing in shiny electronic beats, irresistible hooks and dance pop aesthetics ranging from kuduro to, um, Pitbull. Do we miss the days of throbbing, tough-talking tracks like "Rakata" and "Gasolina"? Sure. But do we also find ourselves shaking our booties to candy-coated dancefloor bangers like "Algo Me Gusta De Ti" and "Limbo"? Undeniably. This is the sound of today's reggaeton. Get moving.
