About this playlist

You may not recognize the name Clay Cook right away, but you've certainly heard his handiwork as a cowriter with John Mayer on his early albums, and currently as a member of the Grammy-winning Zac Brown Band. With an extensive musical background that includes Berklee College of Music and touring with bands such as The Marshall Tucker Band and Sugarland, Cook is a well-rounded utility player who can hold his own on the guitar, mandolin, steel guitar, keyboards -- pretty much anything you can throw at him.

On Cook's recently released solo album, North Star, the Georgia native collaborates with Mayer, The Wood Brothers, Steel Magnolia and even Clare Bowen from the show Nashville. Throughout, Cook incorporates fuzzy Southern rock ("Head First"), classic rock ("If There's a Chance," "Lead Me On") and, of course, Zac Brown Band-style twang ("Restless Man") -- all of which influence his raw, earthy sound.

Whether he's on the road with the Zac Brown Band or touring as a solo artist, Clay has plenty of time to kill in between shows. So we asked him to make us a playlist and include some of his favorite songs. He gave us a list of what he describes as "cold-weather songs," and says they "feel good walking down a cold city street." True to his word, he created a playlist that radiates a warm coziness to cut through the cold. Hit play and snuggle up.
