The Shanghai Restoration Project takes a more literal interest in its inspiration on this collaboration with China Records that refurbishes the government's collection of classic Chinese pop recordings. The second half features the remastered original recordings, and the first works SRP's magic on the same tunes. Some of the remixes are organically smooth ("Rose, Rose, I Love You"), while others ("The Evening Primrose") overpower the vocal samples a bit. Regardless, it's a treasure trove of sweet-voiced divas of yesteryear, including several of the Seven Great Singing Stars of 1930s Shanghai.
