In the three years since Tycho's Dive, Scott Hansen's solo project evolved into a three-piece band. The bass is what you notice first: Glowing, muscular, it pushes the songs forward, carving a wide-open space for all those synths and guitars to shimmer even more broadly than before. Live drums add still more force. The music's as starry-eyed as ever, but it's sturdier, too. Looking more to New Order and Ride than Ulrich Schnauss and Boards of Canada, this is dream-pop with its feet planted firmly on the ground.
