Released:
Label: Too Good Records
After 2007's slimmed-down, comparatively acoustic Return of the Bastard, Tommy Guerrero returns to a modestly bigger canvas with a collection of easygoing songs that hover somewhere between jazzy indie rock and organic downtempo. As always, the Bay Area fixture (and former pro skater) peppers his music with dubby detailing, Latin pizzazz and a dash of beatnik jam band, but what really makes the album shine is its assured but understated musicality: Listening to his strutting Hammonds, melodica and suave Spanish guitars feels like eavesdropping on a roomful of fascinating characters.
