Released:
Label: Kanaga System Krush
This beautiful album is a statement: against the persecution of music in Mali, in homage to the centuries-old legacies of griots (West Africa's musical storytellers), and in honor of Sissoko himself, who played with the likes of Toumani Diabaté but died before his first album released. But this is also simply a beautiful album: a lush, sometimes hushed, lilting collection of songs that ripple with kora waterfalls and plinking guitar and his resonant, chestnut voice, which is capable of raising powerful seas of sound or enveloping you in daydream-like humming (see "Ti Ta Ti").
