Released:
Label: Mercury UK
Released in 1995, Tilt represented a major evolutionary leap in Scott Walker's artistry. Up to that point the singer's music (even in its more avant-garde manifestations -- 1978's Nite Flights, for example) came rooted in pop and rock convention. But on this album he scrapped all that, creating instead a nightmarish vision that owed more to industrial music, goth, modern classical and progressive electronics. Dystopian Opera is basically what he's going for, and it is utterly awesome. Yet dark and foreboding, too. Tilt isn't for casual listening, but for full psychic immersion only.
