Rick Nelson dabbled in proto-Americana on 1967's Country Fever, but In Concert is where he blossomed into a country-rock pioneer. Three years before Gram Parsons' solo debut, Nelson and his newly formed Stone Canyon Band, featuring ex-Buckaroo Tom Brumley on pedal steel and future Poco/Eagles bassist Randy Meisner, tore into a handful of Dylan covers and several of Nelson's old hits, including "Believe What You Say." Although Nelson sounds kind of laid back fella, his band smokes. Good stuff.
