OMD had a surprise American No. 1 single in 1986 with "If You Leave," their song for the movie Pretty In Pink. They followed up that hit with this album, which sounds like a collaboration between them and (gulp) typical '80s bands like Level 42 and a-ha; the tracks here are littered with popping basses, tribal drum beats and sharp horn charts. That said, "Live and Die (Forever)" was a worthy hit single, "Shame" should've been an '80s radio staple and, best of all, the title track recalls their former "post punk meets arty synth" glory.
