Label: Stones Throw Records
The unlikely collaboration between a '60s relic and one of the West's hottest young hip-hop producers, Exodus finds producer Oh No (formerly known as Madlib's little brother) exclusively sampling the work of Tony award winner and Hair composer Galt MacDermot. What's great about this album isn't the concept, but rather the execution. Oh No preserves the composer's psych-styled funk while artfully overlaying his own jittery boom bap. It also helps that an all-star lineup of indie emcees show up; Planet Asia, Posdnuos, Vast Aire and Buckshot among many others drop great verses.
