After four stormy years on Geffen, 1988's This Note's For You was suppose to be Young's return to form (whatever that meant). Of course, the guy trashed all expectations. Instead of wispy folk-rock or proto-grunge, Young cranked out a set of brassy blues rock, including the infamous title track, the video for which exposed him to the MTV generation. But there's more here than just Stevie Ray Vaughan imitations; "Twilight" and "Coupe De Ville" are as haunting as anything from On the Beach.
