Revisiting material via an acoustic sets can sometimes make songs sound simpler, less fully formed, but this acoustic rendering of MercyMe's fifth album actually helps the tunes come into their own: the once southern rock-tinged CCM becomes rambling session rock a la 1970s Americana. Barely there but still an influence are the guitar moods of the Bread-America-Fogelberg fraternity, and vocals at times sound like a Keith Green remix, taking on a soul they hadn't had before. Apparently, if it ain't broke you can still fix it.
