About Marlui Miranda
Marlui Miranda has an instantly memorable voice, with a wide range and elaborate intonation that commingles with flutes, percussion, acoustic bass, guitar, piano, marimba and other Amazon instruments. Meshing her vocals with those of Grupo Beijo, a native women's group, she creates the deeply harmonic soundscapes which distinguish her music. As an ethnomusicologist, she has studied her indigenous culture by learning many time-worn songs. Coloring folklore with Brazilian and jazz hues, she paints a vivid picture of a vibrant and mysterious forest in which the ancient meets the modern. After years of experimentation, she has synthesized her cultural secrets into a form of musical expression that's truly compelling.
