Released:
Label: Atlantic Records
To celebrate his Cajun-roots-soul mashup making the jump to Atlantic Records, Marc Broussard and his band released this four-song EP. Recorded at sea on the Rock Boat VIII tour under what sounds like mild duress (sea sickness, power outages, etc.), it's a lovely little offering. The striking "Someone You Know," with its jumbled imagery of a city under siege and its defiant assertion of our common humanity, pays homage to still-suffering Katrina survivors. "Try Me" and "It's Over Now" prove this guy's got soul chops, and the title track keeps the Cajun sound updated but alive.
