About Luca Mundaca
Sometimes a bout of bad luck can be the best thing that happens to an artist. Singer Luca Mundaca, born in Chile and raised in Brazil, moved to New York City in 1999 to pursue her musical dreams. She quickly signed to a major label, but just a few months before she was slated to release her debut, September 11th happened. The label dropped most of their jazz artists, and Mundaca was left on her own. In a testament to both her talent and resilience, the singer found a small independent label, Lumeni Productions, who sent her to Brazil to record her debut Day By Day, a stunningly mature work of neo-bossa nova. Though signed to a tiny label, Mundaca's sultry, cool-toned singing drew the attention of Putumayo World Music, which has featured songs from the album on two compilations to date.
