Label: Lonely Astronaut
The Graduation Ceremony just might be the most folk-oriented album tunesmith Joseph Arthur has released yet. A good number of its 12 songs are plaintive ballads built from nimbly plucked acoustic guitars, ethereal string arrangements and session veteran Jim Keltner's tasteful drumming. Overall, the album makes for a nice companion piece to As I Call You Down, the 2010 debut from Fistful of Mercy, Arthur's side project with Ben Harper and Dhani Harrison. Both would sound great on a cross-country sojourn, wherein your only companions are your mind and a never-ending stretch of highway.
