Alongside his brother Enrique (Quique) Rangel, Cafe Tacuba's bespectacled guitarist Joselo Rangel has been an integral part of the band's sound almost since the beginning. Raised in Veracruz, Mexico, Rangel's interests were diverse before he took up music: he played basketball, drew comics and wrote science fiction. But music won out, and after playing in various bands he and his brother joined Cafe Tacuba for a spectacular run of excellent records. In 2001 Rangel took a year's sabbatical from the band to record his solo debut, Oso, an album that featured songs penned over a five-year period. In 2006 he released Lejos, which had little chart impact but gained a cult following.
